Streamlight Inc., a leading provider of high-performance lighting, introduced the Vulcan 180 Rechargeable Lantern, the lightest portable lantern of its kind. Featuring a 180 degree rotating head that directs up to 1,200 lumens where needed, the multi-function light provides innovative optics for navigating thick smoke, including three power LEDs that produce extreme brightness and two ultra-bright blue taillight LEDs to provide rear visibility.
“The Vulcan 180 is an extremely bright lantern with rear taillights, designed to enable firefighters to see and be seen in difficult environments, whether from smoke, inclement weather or other hazards,” said Streamlight Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Michael F. Dineen. “With its tilting head, first responders and other users can aim the light beam precisely where it is needed for task lighting purposes. And because it is powered by a lithium ion battery, it is one of the lightest weight lanterns in its category.”
Featuring a triangular-shaped facecap and rotating head, the Vulcan 180 uses three white power LEDs for extreme brightness. Three deep-dish parabolic reflectors produce a tight spot beam with optimum peripheral illumination to aid in navigation, while two ultra-bright blue LEDs illuminate the lantern’s taillights. It delivers 1,200 lumens, 75,000 candela peak beam intensity, a 548-meter beam distance, and a run time of 4 hours and 45 minutes on the high setting. On low, it provides 350 lumens, 22,000 candela, a 296-meter beam distance, and a run time of 12 hours.
The light’s rotating head tilts 180 degrees and features a locking mechanism to lock it in the upright position. The lantern also is equipped with a large, easy-to-push button that provides programmable access to the light’s various operating modes. The lantern’s large handle enables smooth handoffs even with gloves and offers a nonslip grip for easy carrying.
Powered by a rechargeable 8800 mAh lithium ion battery, the Vulcan 180 fully recharges in 9.2 hours. Its quick install charge rack fits the same footprint as other lanterns in both the Vulcan® and Litebox® series.
The light is encased in a durable, super-tough nylon and its rotating head is constructed from high-grade aluminum. Measuring 7.43 inches long and 4.36 inches high, the Vulcan 180 weighs only 2.47 pounds with the battery. It is IPX7 rated for waterproof operation to one meter submersion, and also floats. The light, which is impact-resistant tested to two meters, has an operating temperature range of -20° F to 130° F. (To maintain its hazardous locations rating, the light must be operated in a temperature range of -20° C to 40° C.)
Available in international safety orange and safety yellow, the Vulcan 180 comes with Streamlight's Limited Lifetime Warranty. The MSRP for the Vulcan 180 ranges from $313.25 to $333.20 depending on the configuration.
